When I first consumed the local egg, it shocked me. I was repulsed by it, literally turning my nose up in order to swallow. I rubbed my tongue fiercely with my brush to erase the memory of the egg from my tastes. My prayer was a hope that I could keep it down. I smelled the local egg everywhere afterwards. I smelled it in the hall, in the stairwell, in the street. When it came dawn again, and the time had arrived for me to consume the local egg again, I was afraid⸺afraid that this time would be worse than the last. The egg, however, did not taste as foreign to me. I was actually able to think through my bites, pray.
The Local Egg speaks to me of uninitiated womanhood. As an initiate, I must consume the truth of my sex. It is my sword. It bears the yolk of my medicine.
